Create an irresistible lead magnet

Getting thousands of visitors to your website surely feels good, but all of that traffic is nearly useless unless it converts.

If you’re blogging to make money, then you already know the importance of building an email list for your blog/business.

But, getting your readers to join your email list is where a lead magnet comes into play.

Having a lead magnet significantly increases your email sign-ups and boosts your conversion rate.

That’s what you’re gonna find out in this post along with how you can create an irresistible lead magnet that your audience wouldn’t be able to ignore.

What is a Lead Magnet?

A lead magnet is a freebie or an incentive that you offer your readers in exchange for them to join your email list.

Basically, it attracts your audience to give you their email addresses and converts them into potential leads.

Unlike a content upgrade (That you offer with a blog post!), a lead magnet doesn’t have to complement a blog post or any other type of content.

Infact, it works independently and you can promote it separately and capture leads as well.

But just because you offer it for free doesn’t mean that it can be useless. You still need to add value to your readers.

Types of Lead Magnets

There are multiple lead magnet types that you can create for your blog or business, but which type you choose depends entirely up to you and your goals.

Here are a few types of freebies that you can offer and capture email addresses from your readers:

  1. PDF Guide/eBook
  2. Resource guide or Resource list
  3. Email Courses
  4. Video Series
  5. Softwares
  6. Swipe File etc.

It can also be the first or second step of your sales funnel, and then you can nurture your leads and convert them into paying customers.

Coming up with Your Lead Magnet Idea

Since the lead magnet is a very important part of your marketing funnel or sales process, you can’t just create anything that comes into your mind.

It’s important to put some effort into your lead magnet and deliver as much value as possible to your subscribers.

Now, the first question that comes into your mind is “how do you come up with your lead magnet idea?”

How do you make sure that you create the right freebie that captures leads for your blog or business?

Here are 4 ways how:

Asking Your Audience

This one’s pretty obvious but you can directly ask your audience what they want.

Knowing about your customers and their wants goes a long way.

You could simply post a poll on your most engaged social media account with a few topics and see which one gets the most response.

Or you could ask a direct question as well!

It depends entirely up to you which path you choose.

Your Most Popular Blog Posts

Another thing you could do is take a look at your most popular and engaging blog posts.

Those are a sign that your audience is liking that kind of content and it could be a great idea to create a lead magnet around one of those topics.

What They Want Vs. What You Wanna Give

Sometimes what we think our audience wants and what they actually want is way too different.

So, just because you think that your audience wants to know about a particular topic doesn’t mean that they actually want to.

Don’t just start working on the first idea that comes into your mind.

Should Complement Your Product/Service

The purpose of a lead magnet is to capture potential leads so you can market and sell your products or services to them.

So, make sure that your lead magnet complements your product or services.

Offering a freebie on one topic and then marketing a product or service based on an entirely different topic wouldn’t make sense to your audience.

And your conversion rate is going to suck!

Creating an Irresistible Lead Magnet That Converts

Creating a lead magnet is one thing. Creating one that attracts readers and invites them to return to it, again and again, is another.

Here’s how you can create an irresistible lead magnet in 4 easy steps.

1. Identify your Value Proposition

You already know which prospects you want to target, so you have to give them a compelling reason to sign-up for your lead magnet.

The value proposition of your freebie is what makes it unique. Why should people sign-up for it? What makes it different than all the other freebies in the niche?

Here’s what you can do: instead of trying to create something you think they could want, figure out what they already need, and deliver that.

The number of subscribers or leads your lead magnet generates for you will be directly tied to the promise you make to your audience.

2. Choose the Type of Lead Magnet You Wanna Create

For this you have several options to choose from that could effectively deliver your value proposition and get you a ton of subscribers (If you haven’t decided already!).

Make sure that you focus on your strengths!

For Example: If you’re a camera-shy person (Like me!), you could go with ebooks, guides, or Email Courses. But if you’re good with video and editing, you could create mini video trainings or courses.

Email courses work really well for me!

But don’t overcomplicate it though! Keep it simple, concise, actionable, and packed with value.

3. Deciding a Name for Your Lead Magnet

Naming your lead magnet is gonna be easy since you already know what you’re offering and to whom.

Your title is essentially a headline for your value proposition that appeals to your target audience. So, don’t forget to mention the main benefit of your lead magnet in the title.

Remember that lead magnet title is gonna make a huge difference in your conversion rate.

4. Creating  your Lead Magnet

70% of the work is already done. You have strategized, researched and now it’s time to put in the work to create your lead magnet.

As you create your lead magnet, don’t forget who it is for and what you’re going to offer. Make sure that your value can be consumed easily.

For eBooks, guides, checklists, etc. you can use Canva. I use it and absolutely love it! it has tons of templates for you to use.

If you’re planning to create Email courses, then you can simply write your emails in a Word document and create a sequence/automation in your email marketing tool to deliver each email at a gap of 1 day.

For video trainings, you can send the videos via email as well (like the email courses!) or you could create a free course on an online teaching platform like Teachable.

How to deliver your Lead magnet & Capture Leads

Once you’ve created your lead magnet, you’d want to deliver it with ease can capture leads or email subscribers.

As I already mentioned above, if you’re creating a video course or series/training, you could use a platform like Teachable.

For all the other types of lead magnets, I highly recommend ConvertKit. It is one of the most popular email marketing tools among bloggers & content creators and I use it myself.
